National Poetry Month San Antonio (NPMSA)

Launched by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month takes place each April. It is one of the largest literary celebrations in the world. The City of San Antonio joined National Poetry Month in 2009 to raise awareness about the importance of poetry. Many talented poets call San Antonio home; poetry is an integral part of our city's culture. Annual celebrations include:

• workshops
• performances
• discussions

Ways To Celebrate

• Take part in one of the many poetry events. These include readings, workshops, performances and literary discussions.
• Learn more about the San Antonio Poet Laureate program.
• Check out a book of poetry from your local library.
• Get inspired by San Antonio's Public Art and write a poem about your favorite.
• Start your classes or meetings by reading a poem.
• Make a poetry playlist. 
• Discover the joy of spring with poems written for kids.
