San Antonio's Cultural Story

Whether you visit a public art installation, attend a live performance, or enjoy a festival, it is an experience you won't find elsewhere. Having arts as a part of our history and culture is what makes San Antonio unique. Their stories tell of our past, which began over 300 years ago, and the ones that continue to change as our city evolves. They tell of where we've been and where we'd like to be.

The City of San Antonio understands that for these stories to continue, we must support the storytellers. Listed below are agencies and organizations that we support to provide important programs for San Antonians.

Agarita Chamber Players: Agarita nourishes the local community through artistic collaborations, education, community engagement, and free, adventurous programming.
Alamo City Performing Arts Association: Alamo City Arts is dedicated to inclusive education in the art of dance, theater, and music to help instill and perpetuate a genuine appreciation of the performing arts in the community through educational and performance opportunities alongside professional artists.
American Indians in Texas at the Spanish Colonial Missions (AIT): AIT focuses on strengthening and expanding Native American cultural arts programming in San Antonio. It conducts educational events and performs in cultural community events.
Anuja SA: Anuja SA promotes the Sister-City alliance between San Antonio and Chennai, India. Anuja SA's mission is to foster relationships between the two cities in various facets including arts and culture, medicine, education, and more.
Artpace: Artpace contributes to San Antonio's cultural life by providing an accessible facility with challenging exhibitions. Artpace offers an artist-in-residence program and free educational events for adults, children, and artists.
Ballet San Antonio: Ballet San Antonio offers diverse dance performances and outreach programs that reflect, promote, and enrich the San Antonio community.
Bihl Haus Arts: The focus of Bihl Haus is creating community through the arts. It presents performances and exhibits year-round and encourages multicultural understanding and awareness.
Briscoe Western Art Museum: Through the preservation of the art, history, and culture of the American West, the Briscoe inspires and educates the public with engaging exhibitions, educational programs, and public events reflective of the region's rich traditions and shared heritage.

Cactus Pear Music Festival (CPMF): CPMF is San Antonio's premier summer chamber music festival, celebrating its 24th season of world-class music and artistry.
Camerata San Antonio: Camerata San Antonio presents chamber music of the highest caliber to diverse classical music-loving audiences and provides educational concerts and musical enrichments to San Antonio's public school students.
Celebration Circle of San Antonio: Celebration Circle is an inclusive, multi-faith community with a creative approach to spirituality.
Centro Cultural Aztlan: The Centro's mission is to support and strengthen Chicano/Latino identity and to share that culture with the San Antonio community through outreach programs and community arts projects.
Chamber Choir of San Antonio: Through exquisite music and innovative programming, the San Antonio Chamber Choir elevates the spirit, enlightens the mind, and nurtures the soul.
Children's Chorus of San Antonio: The chorus has five core ensembles and serves boys and girls ages 7 to 18. They run an outreach program in the Edgewood and Harlandale communities and offer community workshops and free concerts.
Christmas Laredo For All: Promote local talent with our events and give presents, food, love, and more for our community kids and elderly in need.
Classical Music Institute of San Antonio (CMI): CMI's mission is to cultivate classical music education and performance as a gateway to the arts.
The Classic Theatre San Antonio: The Classic Theatre creates excellent theatre that is relevant, diverse, entertaining, and transformative.
Conjunto Heritage Taller: The Taller provides low-cost instruction on the button accordion and bajo sexto to multicultural and multigenerational students in the traditional Conjunto music genre.
Contemporary Art for San Antonio: The Contemporary inspires the creative genius in us all by nurturing artists through innovative contemporary art.
The DoSeum: The DoSeum provides engaging hands-on experiences where children and adults actively learn through creative play.
Dreams Fulfilled Through Music (DFTM): DFTM uses adaptive methods in music to meet the individual needs of students with disABILITIES or any special needs.

Esperanza Peace & Justice Center: The Esperanza presents groundbreaking cultural events throughout San Antonio and features exhibits, workshops, and performances at its main building.
Fiesta Youth: Our mission is to provide a safe non-judgmental affirming place for LGBTQ young people to express and explore who they are through education, peer-support, advocacy, and friendship.
Gemini Ink: A literary arts center, Gemini Ink encourages focused reading, writing, and exchange at every level. It offers writing classes and administers educational programs fostering the literary arts.
Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center: The Guadalupe cultivates, promotes, and preserves traditional and contemporary Latino arts and culture through art, dance, music, and theater.
Heritage Festivals: Dedicated to bringing folk dance performances to San Antonio and continue to nurture and invigorate the community of international folk dancers and friends in Central Texas.
Japan American Society of San Antonio (JASSA): The JASSA leads to connect cultural and business communities in San Antonio with those in Japan through diverse grassroots exchange activities, aims to further enhance the friendships between Japan and San Antonio, and disseminate to the world the diverse and intrinsic values of San Antonio.
Jump-Start Performance Company: The Jump-Start is dedicated to discovering and supporting new ideas in the arts and art education. It stages innovative theatre productions and offers classes and workshops.

Luminaria: Luminaria is dedicated to producing and promoting the arts to the city of San Antonio by managing the annual Contemporary Arts Festival, the Luminaria Artist Foundation grants program, and culturally driven creative placemaking.
Lux Musicae: Lux Musicae highlights the chamber concert ambiance which conveys transparency to realize artistic productions that integrate music, dance, theatre, and the visual arts.
Magik Children's Theatre: The Magik stages theatre productions of children's literature and offers a wide range of theatre arts programs for young people.
Marisol Deluna Foundation, Inc: This charitable nonprofit organization formed to support the education and mentoring of students and professionals in fashion, design, and fine arts in Texas.
Mehr Foundation | San Antonio Persian Cultural Society: Managed by the San Antonio Persian Cultural Society, Mehr is a nonprofit, nonpolitical and nonreligious organization dedicated to the celebration of Persian/Iranian culture and arts.
Mexican American Civil Rights Institute (MACRI): Rooted in and inspired by San Antonio's legacy, MACRI is the premier national organization dedicated to chronicling and advancing the Mexican American community's civil rights efforts in the U.S.
Musical Bridges Around the World (MBAW): MBAW focuses on creating one-of-a-kind, multicultural performances by world-class, internationally renowned classical, jazz, and ethnic folk musicians and performing artists, for the benefit of the public and at-risk youth.
Network for Young Artists (NYA): NYA's objective is to develop innate talent and build self-esteem in young people from ages 4 to 20 through cultural programs in voice, dance, and musical instruments.
OPERA San Antonio: OPERA San Antonio is completing its fifth year as the resident opera company at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, producing two major operas a year.

San Anto Cultural Arts: San Anto helps people of all socioeconomic backgrounds to realize their creative skills in art, journalism, and video production.
San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum (SAAACAM): SAAACAM collects, preserves, and shares the cultural heritage of African Americans in the San Antonio region.
San Antonio Book Festival (SABF): This free festival unites readers and writers in a celebration of books, ideas, libraries, and literary culture.
San Antonio Chamber Choir (SACC): Through exquisite music and innovative programming, SACC elevates the spirit, enlightens the mind, and nurtures the soul.
San Antonio Choral Society: The San Antonio Choral Society is an 80-person mixed-voice community chorus, open to adults and talented high school singers.
San Antonio Dance Company: San Antonio Dance's mission is to inspire and promote the appreciation of dance through artistic excellence.
San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA): SAMA provides unique visual experiences and educational resources in the development of visual literacy for the San Antonio and South Texas community.
San Antonio Parks Foundation: The San Antonio Parks Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to provide enhancements to the parks and the park experience in the City of San Antonio and the County of Bexar which improve the quality of life for all of our citizens.
San Antonio Stockyards Historical Society (SASHS): SASHS was created in October 2018 to promote awareness of the forgotten stockyard and cattle industry in San Antonio.
San Antonio Swing Dance Society (SASDS): SASDS's purpose is to promote and educate the public and preserve the art of Swing dancing and music.
San Pedro Playhouse (previously The Public Theater): San Pedro Playhouse is San Antonio's largest, most productive professional live theater organization and only Equity Theater.
Say Sí: Say Sí provides tuition-free arts education to San Antonio students through national-award-winning programs.
SOLI Chamber Ensemble: SOLI presents a season of innovative programs in a variety of venues across the city. It is known for performing classical contemporary music and for its strong commitment to commissioning new works.
Sociedad Cultural Hispanoamericana: SCHASAs mission is to promote and disseminate the Hispanic-Latin-American culture supporting and strengthening organizations, associations, or groups representing member countries formally organized in San Antonio, Texas.
Somos Cultura y Más: Our mission is to commemorate and celebrate the traditions, history, and heritage of the Latino community.
Sonido Barroco San Antonio: The mission as an ensemble is to provide historically informed and educational performances of early music on period instruments to San Antonio, Texas, and surrounding areas.

Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México UNAM San Antonio: UNAM San Antonio, Texas, promotes multinational integration through language instruction, the diffusion of culture, academic extension, and relations with academic institutions in the United States.
Urban-15 Group: Urban-15 is a multidisciplinary arts organization devoted to music, dance, and media that provides educational programs for the community.
Voices de Luna: Voices de la Luna inspires and promotes literature and arts and serves as a platform for all authors and artists to share their work with others.
Witte Museum: The Witte is a museum of natural history, science, and South Texas heritage. Each year it presents a variety of exhibits celebrating the sciences and local history.
Wonder Theatre: Wonder Theatre is a nonprofit, live performance theatre engaging the San Antonio community with musical productions and educational programming year-round since 2012.
Youth Orchestras of San Antonio (YOSA): YOSA provides a comprehensive orchestral music program that includes five orchestras at various skill levels and gives music students the chance to study with professional artists.
