Wheatley Heights Sports Complex
Wheatley Heights Sports Complex is located within Martin Luther King Park.
We are excited to welcome community users and aim to increase access to our Eastside neighbors and participants throughout San Antonio!

Community Open Play
Community members are welcome to use the Wheatley Heights Sports Complex stadium and track for free on the following days:
- Track: Monday - Friday 8 - 10 a.m.
- Track & Field: Wednesday 5 - 8 p.m.
Closed on City holidays.
Activities
Activities include, but are not limited to:
- flag football
- soccer
- rugby
- use of the track to walk or run
Amenities Available for Rental
Event Hall
NOTE: There is a four-hour minimum for rentals of the event hall.
The event hall can host a wide range of community and corporate events, including:
- banquets
- public input meetings
- award ceremonies
- fundraisers
- graduation parties
Event hall reservations can be made up to 12 months prior to the scheduled event. Payment is required at least two weeks prior to the event. Please look at our floor plan for options for event hall set ups.

Food & Beverage
Allowing outside food and beverages is at the discretion of the event host. A water bottle refill station and water fountain are available inside the lobby.
The Event Hall does come equipped with a staging room to allow the use of catering services.
Stadium
All reservations include the use of lights (if applicable) and locker room access.
Our stadium can accommodate 3,500 spectators.

Food & Beverage
Outside food and beverages are not allowed during sporting events. Spectators may bring a refillable water bottle to use at the various water fountains located on site.
In addition, the stadium is equipped with two Concessions areas that may be requested for use. SA Parks has partnered with the Wheatley Heights Sports Conservancy to offer concessions during special events at the stadium.
If the Conservancy does not provide concessions, then the reservation host may provide these services. If the host chooses this option, an appropriate permit from San Antonio Metro Health Department (SAMHD) is required. You may coordinate by calling 3-1-1 or 210-207-6000.
Track & Field
Track reservations are available and can be made by completing the Special Events Application.
Amenities

Guidelines
- For safety reasons, spectators are not allowed on the track during events
- Metal spiked cleats/shoes (such as baseball and track shoes) are not allowed on the turf-covered area. Spiked shoes may be allowed only while using the track surface and must be immediately removed before walking on the turf grounds. Other cleats may be restricted for safety reasons.

Practice Reservations
South Fields and Complex practice reservations for the remaining 2024 months (July - December) opened June 17.
Quarterly openings will resume in January 2025. Practice reservations will open one month prior to each quarter (i.e., January - March will open no later than December 1).

Insurance requirements are listed within the application. Please give yourself ample time to ensure these requirements are fulfilled with your provider.
Reservations will be accepted and/or approved on a first come, first served basis. Receipt of reservation does not mean approval or confirmation. Reservations are confirmed when payment and insurance are finalized.
Reservation Details
Events must be scheduled during MLK Park hours. Park hours are Sunday - Saturday, 5 a.m. - 11 p.m.
Fees are determined based on the type of reservation (event or practice). Please indicate the type of reservation you need when making a request.
Event setup and coordination are the responsibility of the user. Onsite staff are available to ensure the facility's safety and full operation.

Special Events
We encourage use of our facilities for corporate events, school sports days and more!
A special event is any reservation not used for practice purposes. Examples of special events include, but are not limited to:
- sporting games
- races and 5Ks
- community meetings
- public input meetings
- festivals
- banquets
- concerts
- social gatherings
- award ceremonies
- fundraisers
- graduation parties
While we accommodate a wide range of events, certain restrictions may apply based on the nature of the event and our facility's capabilities.
Four Event Rule
Organizations may schedule a maximum of four events per season within a 12-month period.
If seeking additional dates, organizations can send that request within 90 days and are subject to availability. All payments must be received at least 30 days prior to all field events or are subject to cancellation.

- What is the maximum capacity for the event hall?

We have various seating options available, including gala-style and theater seating, with a maximum seating capacity of 176 chairs.
- Is there Wi-Fi available for guest and participants?

The facility is currently in the process of installing Wi-Fi network. At this time, guests do not have the option to connect to the COSA Wi-Fi network; however, event hosts will have the ability to connect temporarily. Please check back soon for updates regarding Wi-Fi services.
- Are there locker rooms and shower facilities available?

Yes, there are two sets of locker rooms located inside the fieldhouse that come fully equipped with showers, restrooms, and lockers for athlete use only. Lockers are available for day use and users must provide their own lock. Spectator restrooms are located beneath each bleach stand.
- Is there wheelchair accessibility?

Yes, we have designated seating areas for wheelchair users and accompanying guests, as well as accessible parking located near the entrance of the Complex.
- Are there restrictions on decorations for private events?

While we encourage creative decoration, we do ask our hosts to refrain from using tape, staples, putty, nails or screws, command strips, or any other fastener or adhesive on the walls of the Event Hall. Helium-filled balloons are not allowed inside the Event Hall. Other restrictions may apply so please inform your Event Coordinator of any plans to ensure the requested decor is permissible.
- Can I bring my own vendors or caterers for my event?

We have preferred vendors and catering partners, but you may also bring your own vendors with prior approval and coordination.
- Are there any restrictions on banners or signage?

Banners and signage in support of those participating in sporting events are allowed during the reservation period only. Banners and signage should be appropriate in messaging (no offensive or vulgar language/symbols allowed). Banners and signage should not obstruct the view of other spectators and must be removed at the conclusion of each reservation period. Contact EJ Moreno to discuss additional limitations.
- Can I bring my own AV equipment for presentations?

We provide state-of-the-art AV equipment, but you're welcome to bring your own if necessary.
- Are there parking facilities available?

Yes, we have three parking lots surrounding the facility with parking for over 700 personal vehicles.
- Are there designated areas for smoking?

Smoking and other use of tobacco is prohibited on SA Parks’ premises per City Ordinance Sec. 22-25.1. Fires and fire hazards—Smoking, campfires and cooking fires.
- Are there designated areas for grilling food?

Barbeque pits and grills are not allowed within the stadium and event hall fencing. If seeking this type of food preparation, please coordinate options and contact EJ Moreno.
In addition, organizations must provide and post the appropriate food permit for their selected service.
- Is there a medical team available during events?

Providing medical personnel is the responsibility of the event host.
- Will I need to provide insurance?

Yes, stadium insurance requirements can be found on Event Hall insurance requirements(PDF, 90KB).
- Can I bring my camera to take photos during the game?

Use of cameras is at the discretion of the event host; professional-grade photography equipment may require special permission from SA Parks and Recreation. To coordinate permission, contact EJ Moreno.
- Is alcohol allowed for sporting events or in the event hall?

Alcohol is generally not permitted within MLK Park. However, you may request to serve alcohol at your event in the Special Event Application for the Director of Parks and Recreation to review. If approved, the reservation host is responsible for providing security, a TABC license, and appropriate liability insurance.
