What Do Batman & Unicorns Have in Common? National Walk To School Day!

Batman parked his Batmobile long enough to join Christian Evers Elementary students for their walk to school. Nearly 200 students, parents, teachers, and others made the 0.8-mile trek to school as part of National Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day on October 12, 2022.
San Antonio’s Transportation Department and Vision Zero team helped support the caped crusader’s efforts, and school administrators say events like these encourage healthier habits, a cleaner environment, and promote pedestrian safety.
The group met at MetaChurch for some healthy snacks and Vision Zero swag. As community members gathered, The Batman of San Antonio posed for selfies, TikToks and more. The crowed loved the opportunity to connect with the Dark Knight. As dawn approached, District 6 Councilwoman Melissa Cabello-Havrda and Transportation Department Public Relations Manager Joe Conger motioned the crowd to start the trek to school. We didn’t want to be tardy, or course!
As the walk continued Christian Evers Elementary Principal, Thalia Hernandez said, “Coming back in person – we had the pandemic for the last couple of years—has been stressful. But kids are resilient, and I think again when you see the community coming together, that’s just exciting and it builds good energy and momentum. So, I think it is just helpful for us to remind kids about a healthy lifestyle.”
Batman led the way and spoke with students about the importance of pedestrian safety as Northside ISD Police monitored traffic and made sure the route was safe. Arriving to the school grounds, you could sense the excitement of the students and parents who were dropping their kids off. Several even stopped to film the parade.
The Bat, along with his parade of Unicorns, landed at the doors just before first bell rang.
