Councilmember Whyte Comments on the Reproductive Justice Health Care Vote

SAN ANTONIO (April 3, 2025) – Today, District 10 Councilmember Marc Whyte voted against the proposed ordinance authorizing an expedited process to fund logistical support for out-of-state abortions.

“Our priorities as a city must be clear,” said Councilmember Whyte. “We have a responsibility to address the very real and urgent needs facing San Antonio residents every single day. Twenty-two percent of our city’s roads are currently rated in poor or failing condition. In 2024 alone, San Antonio experienced over 31,000 crimes against persons and more than 108,000 crimes against property. These are the issues impacting every neighborhood, and these are the problems we were elected to solve.”

“Politics must be set aside. As your city government, we must do what’s right for the people of San Antonio. When streets are crumbling and families are worried about crime, we cannot afford to redirect limited resources toward efforts that go far beyond our municipal authority and into areas clearly regulated by the state.

“Senate Bill 33 is likely to become law and would ban Texas cities from supporting abortion services. Backing this ordinance could put San Antonio in direct conflict with state law and expose taxpayers to costly legal battles.”
