SAN ANTONIO (January 24, 2025) – Consistent with our Critical Incident Video Release Procedure, SAPD will release video from the Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on December 24, 2024, at the 3200 block of Howard Street. Below is a brief synopsis of the critical incident:
Officers assigned to the SAPD Street Crimes and Gun Crimes Units received information on two individuals wanted for violent felony warrants and began surveillance around an apartment at the 3200 block of Howard Street. Just after 1 p.m., officers on the 100 block of Melrose Place observed two individuals exit an apartment and drive away to a nearby store in a stolen vehicle. After exiting the store and while walking back to the stolen vehicle, officers attempted to apprehend the suspects, but one fled on foot. During the foot pursuit, an officer pursuing the suspect observed him holding a handgun and informed the other officers on scene that the suspect was armed. A detective, in plain clothes with a fully marked SAPD raid vest, observed the suspect between two buildings and approached him. The suspect saw the detective and ran in the opposite direction. The gun that the suspect was carrying was pointed in the direction of the detective as the suspect began to fall. The detective fired two rounds, striking the suspect. The 19- year-old suspect, Damion Holmes sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Officers began first-aid efforts until EMS arrived and transported the Holmes to a local hospital. No officers or bystanders were injured. The officer involved, Detective Christopher Zygmont #2905, has 22 years of service.
As with all officer involved shootings, the District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the incident.
