SAN ANTONIO (March 19, 2025) – The community is invited to join the 29th Annual César E. Chávez March for Justice this Saturday, March 22, starting at 9 a.m. from the Intersection of Guadalupe and Brazos next to Guadalupe Theater, 1301 Guadalupe Street. 

Participants will march alongside the Local Grand Marshall and Retired U.S.A.F. Colonel Gil Coronado, a veteran and civil servant who campaigned successfully for the establishment of Hispanic Heritage Month, as well as the Chávez Family Grand Marshall Teresa Delgado Chávez, the granddaughter of César E. Chávez. 

Transportation

VIA Metropolitan Transit will provide complimentary Park & Ride Service to and from the César E. Chávez March.

March participants can ride fare-free from 8 – 10 a.m. from Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) at 411 S.W. 24th Street, parking lots B, C, D1 and D2 on the west campus. Participants will enter OLLU Campus at Providence Road, just south of West Commerce Street. Traffic will be directed to parking lots behind the university’s main buildings. Boarding will be on Sister Isabel’s Way, adjacent to the university’s soccer field with transportation to the March starting point at Guadalupe and S. Brazos Streets. Return service will be offered until 2 p.m. from Civic Park back to OLLU. VIA buses will pick up attendees along Market Street. 

School buses will drop off students by Lanier High School, 1514 W. Cesar E Chavez Blvd, and park at the United Way of San Antonio parking lot on the corner of 700 S Alamo St and Barrera. Students will walk back from Civic Park to United Way of San Antonio.

11:45 a.m. Following César E. Chávez March at Civic Park in Hemisfair

Celebration at Civic Park in Hemisfair with entertainment by Mariachi Las Campanas and DJ Joaquin Muerte. Food trucks on site. 

Noon Guest Speakers

About the march

  • The March is two miles long. Water stations will be available at the halfway point at Flores and César Chávez Blvd. in front of the HEB. Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages will provide the water.
  • Portable restrooms and hand washing stations will be available at the start and end of the route. 
  • Wear comfortable tennis shoes and dress for the weather.
  • This is a pet-friendly event.
  • Participants are encouraged to carpool and utilize the free VIA transportation from OLLU as street closures by SAPD begin at 8 a.m. for Guadalupe Street. 
  • If participants arrive after 8 a.m., they may only enter the Lanier High School perimeter from the north.
  • Yes, We Can Campaign: Participants are encouraged to drop off canned food items at the March to benefit the San Antonio Food Bank through the “Yes We Can / ¡Si Se Puede! Campaign.
  • Residents will be able to drop off (preferably) non-perishable food items at various bins located in front of the Guadalupe Theater. They will be placed in visible areas.
