District 5 and District 10 Councilmembers Submit Letter on CPS Energy’s Community Input Committee
The letter calls for more transparency in subcommittee meetings.
SAN ANTONIO (February 13, 2025) – Following a December 9 Municipal Utilities Committee (MUC) meeting, a discussion arose concerning the need for more transparency within the Community Input Committee’s (CIC) subcommittees. District 5 Councilmember Teri Castillo and District 10 Councilmember Marc Whyte drafted and submitted a letter requesting that the CIC work toward ensuring that all subcommittee meetings are open to the public.
“A public utility must be accessible and transparent in everything they do,” District 5 Councilmember Teri Castillo said. “Our letter is a reminder to CPS Energy and City Council that residents have a right to access meetings and conversations which impact them directly.”
“We owe it to our neighbors to seek more transparency from CPS Energy, and they should be given the opportunity to join conversations that will directly affect their day-to-day lives,” District 10 Councilmember Marc Whyte said. “Since 2021, CPS Energy has twice requested a rate hike on our citizens, and if they are being asked to pay more, they certainly should be privy to all conversations that lead to such requests.”
At a January 8 CIC meeting, CPS Energy briefed the CIC that a resolution from the CIC is the mechanism to allow these changes in addressing transparency issues.
