SAN ANTONIO (September 27, 2024)  The Lower Broadway road reconstruction project is entering its last major milestone before project completion. Final paving operations will begin as early as Monday, September 30.

Paving will be done in rolling 3-4 block increments beginning at the north end of the project limits (Broadway and Roy Smith) and heading southbound toward Houston Street. Broadway will be fully closed within these 3-4 block increments, each of which should take about 2-3 days to complete.

Detours will direct motorists to North Alamo Street and Avenue B. Paving should be complete by mid-October, weather permitting.

"We are excited for this project to take one big step closer to finishing," Public Works Director Razi Hosseini said. "The end product will be a brand new roadway with upgraded utilities and a much-improved pedestrian experience."

After paving, roadway striping will be done, during which two-way traffic will be maintained. Other remaining work includes sidewalks, landscaping, and traffic signals.

All businesses remain open and accessible. This project includes amenities such as wider sidewalks, trees, pedestrian lighting, and enhanced traffic signals and crosswalks.
