Artist Open Call: Apply to the City’s Prequalified Public Art List

Artists of all experience levels encouraged to apply


SAN ANTONIO (September 26, 2024) — The City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture is hosting an open call for its prequalified public art list. This list serves as a working roster of visual artists and support service providers who are preapproved by City Council for potential work on designing, building, maintaining and promoting future public art projects in collaboration with the Department of Arts & Culture. The deadline to apply is Friday, October 25, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. Central Time.

“When our department undertakes a public art project, we turn to this list to find the right partners to realize the community’s vision,” said Department of Arts & Culture Executive Director Krystal Jones. “Whether they’re emerging talents or seasoned professionals, those on this list have a special chance to influence how San Antonio is experienced by all for years to come.”

The department is seeking professional qualifications from local, state, national and international visual artists as well as individuals and businesses that provide support services including, design professionals, fabricators, installation experts, marketing professionals and more.

This program is moving from an annual application to a biennial process with the next application opportunity occurring in 2026. Once approved by City Council, selected applicants will remain eligible for projects for six years. With the goal to express the vibrancy and diversity of San Antonio through art and placemaking, these opportunities are varied in scope and include two-dimensional, three-dimensional, functional and other commissions.
