SAN ANTONIO (July 12, 2023) – The City of San Antonio is hosting four Property Tax Help sessions through September to help homeowners learn about and file property tax exemptions.

The San Antonio Legal Services Association will explain the different tax exemptions available to homeowners. Their legal aid volunteers will provide one-on-one assistance to help homeowners complete and submit tax exemption forms on site with Bexar County Appraisal District.

The added workshops are on the cusp of the San Antonio City Council’s vote to double the homestead property tax exemption to 20 percent, which is the maximum percentage allowed by state law.

“We’re excited to add more workshops and reach even more homeowners this year,” said Veronica Garcia, the director of the City’s Neighborhood and Housing Services Department. “By having a team of experts help explain and guide homeowners through the application processes, we are empowering homeowners to have a better understanding of their property taxes and experience the tax relief they need.”

Check-in begins 30 minutes before the start of the event. Attendees are helped by the order of arrival, and the number of people assisted may be limited based on the number of volunteers at each event.

Recommended documents to take and Bexar County resources can be found at the Neighborhood & Housing Services Department Property Tax Help webpage. Spanish and American Sign Language interpreters will be on site at each session to help with translation services. A full list of property tax help workshops is below. Recorded spring presentations are available online at SA.gov/NHSD.
