City Announces Winter Holiday Schedule of City Services

SAN ANTONIO (December 19, 2024) —City Hall and most municipal offices will be closed from Tuesday, December 24, 2024, to Wednesday, January 1, 2025, in observance of the winter holidays. Public safety and emergency services will remain in operation. Other City services will operate as follows:

Public Safety 

• Police will be on duty. 
• Fire and EMS personnel will be on duty.

General Services

• 3-1-1 Call Center will be operational for urgent concerns on Wednesday, December 25 and January 1 for services including animal requests and traffic signal malfunctions from 8 a.m. - 11 p.m.
• 3-1-1 Call Center will be operational on Tuesday, December 24 through Tuesday, December 31 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and from 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. for urgent animal concerns and traffic signal malfunctions.
• Animal Care Officers will be on duty.
• Code Enforcement Officers will be available for inspections and emergency coverage.
• Downtown parking visitors will enjoy holiday free parking at all on-street meters Tuesday, December 24, Wednesday, December 25, and Wednesday, January 1. City-operated parking garages will be free from 5 p.m., Tuesday, December 24 through 8 a.m., Thursday, December 26 and from 12 a.m., Wednesday, January 1 through 6 a.m. Thursday, January 2. The City’s Downtown Tuesday program will be temporarily suspended on Tuesday, December 31. Event parking rates will apply at City of San Antonio parking facilities. Regular meter rates will also be in effect.

Waste Collection & Drop Off 

• Garbage, recycling, and organics will be collected Tuesday, December 24, Christmas Eve. There will be no collections on Wednesday, December 25, Christmas Day. Those normally Wednesday collections will be collected on Thursday, December 26. Those normally Thursday collections will be collected on Friday, December 27. Those normally Friday collections will be collected on Saturday, December 28.
• There will be no collections on Wednesday, January 1, New Year’s Day. Normal Wednesday collections move to Thursday, January 2; normal Thursday collections move to Friday, January 3; normal Friday collections move to Saturday, January 4. 
• Bitters Brush site at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway will be closed Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25, Christmas Eve and Christmas day. It will be open Thursday, December 26, Friday, December 27 and Saturday, December 28. It will be closed Wednesday, January 1, New Year’s Day.
• All four Bulky Waste drop-off centers and the Household Hazardous Waste drop off center will be closed (Bitters, Frio City Rd., Rigsby and Culebra) Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 26, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. They will be open Thursday, December 26, Friday, December 27 and Saturday, December 28. They will be closed Wednesday, January 1, New Year’s Day. 

Facilities & Administrative Offices

Mixed Schedules

• San Antonio Public Library locations, including Central Library, will be closed December 24, 25, 26, 31, and January 1. Library locations will be open December 27 through 30.
• La Villita and Market Square shops will be closed on December 25 and January 1. La Villita and Market Square shops will be open December 24 and 26-31.
• Centro de Artes Gallery at Historic Market Square will be closed on December 24, December 25 and January 1, but will be open on December 26 and December 27.
• Alamodome Offices and Box Office will be closed on December 25, and on December 31 and January 1. The box office is open on December 23 and 24, as well as on December 26 and 27. 
• The Animal Care Services Lobby and Adoption Center will be open with modified hours December 24 and December 31 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The shelter will be closed both December 25 and January 1 with regular business hours December 26 through 30.
• WIC clinics S. Flores, Callaghan, and Buena Vista are open on December 30 from 7:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m. All other Metro Health clinics and offices will be closed.
• Child Care Services administrative offices.
• Homeless Connections Hotline and Veteran Services will be closed December 24-25, and January 1, but will be open December 26-27, 30-31
• City of San Antonio Street Outreach will be closed December 24-25 and January 1, but will be open December 26-27, 30-31
• City of San Antonio Homeless Encampment Team will be closed December 24-25 and January 1, but will be open December 26-27, 30-31
• Barrera Fitness Center, Lincoln Community Center, McFarlin Tennis Center, San Antonio Natatorium, and Wheatley Heights Sports Complex will be closed December 24, 25 and Jan. 1.
• Fitness in the Park classes will not meet December 24-25 and January 1. 
• Parks and Recreation Community Centers will be closed to the public to offer Winter Holiday camps December 20 through January 7, operations vary by site and school schedules. Camps will be closed December 24, 25 and January 1.
• Open Play Community Centers (Bode, Denver Heights, South San, Tobin) will be closed December 21, 24, 25, 28 and Jan. 1. 
• Parks and Recreation Senior Centers (Lions Field, Gil, Granados, Commander’s House) will be closed December 24-25 and January 1. Visit the Parks website for hours of operation and locations.
• Spanish Governors Palace will be closed December 24-25 and January 1, but open December 26, 27, and 31.
