City Council adopts first Corridor Plan for Bandera Road

SAN ANTONIO (December 15, 2022) — The San Antonio City Council adopted the Bandera Road Corridor Plan (Phase 1), the first corridor plan developed under the guidance of the SA Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan. The planning process for the first phase of the Bandera Road Corridor was initiated in 2019 and is part of the City’s work effort to implement the Comprehensive Plan, which was adopted in 2016 by City Council.

Since April 2019, the City has collaborated with residents, business owners, and area stakeholders for this plan. The plan outlines recommendations for multi-modal transportation, future land use, economic development, and urban design for the Bandera Road Corridor between I-410 to Loop 1604.

“The Planning Department and stakeholders deserve a tremendous round of applause. We cannot thank you enough for your dedication to this project,” said Councilwoman Ana Sandoval.

The development of this work aligned with TxDOT’s engineering study and recommendations for traffic improvements along the same portion of Bandera Road.

“The planning process for this Corridor Plan invited hundreds of residents, business owners, and stakeholders throughout the last three years. We thank all who participated in this process since 2019 for their support and collaboration.” said Rudy Niño, Jr, AICP, Assistant Director of the Planning Department. “The now adopted plan is part of the SA Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan implementation and will not only serve to further improve the Bandera Road Corridor from I-410 to Loop 1604 but also put the community’s vision into effect”.

The adopted Plan will serve as a guide to be used by the City Council, City departments, partner agencies, private entities, and community partners to improve this area of the Bandera Road Corridor.
