Conference Slated for May 2 at Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center

SAN ANTONIO (April 26, 2023) – Emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in military healthcare will be the focus of the fourth annual Military Medical Industry Day (MMID) on May 2 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center starting at 7:30 a.m. in downtown San Antonio. Military medical professionals, industry leaders and academics from across the nation are expected to attend the full-day conference.

MMID IV is a collaborative effort between VelocityTX, the City of San Antonio, military medical services, and industry partners. This year's event will focus on advancing military medicine through innovation and collaboration. The event will feature keynote speakers such as Dr. Sean Biggerstaff, panel discussions, and interactive exhibits showcasing the latest advancements in military medicine.

MMID IV will be preceded by the newly created Bexar Bio Pitch Competition on May 1 starting 5:30 p.m. at which biomedical startups will compete for $100,000 in cash prizes.

“San Antonio is a city of biosciences and health with one out of every six San Antonians employed in the industry, and we are home to one of the largest military medical communities in the country. It is our honor to host MMID in Military City, USA, and to facilitate collaboration and partnerships between the armed services and the private sector to support San Antonio’s military medical missions and grow our local economy,” said San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg.

MMID IV allows attendees to meet one-on-one with military medicine subject matter experts to discuss medical topics related to military operations. Attendees can ask questions about proposal submissions and requirements, pitch ideas, obtain clarification on preferred research approaches and receive immediate feedback on feasibility.

"Through collaboration between the military, industry, and academia, MMID facilitates the exchange of ideas and expertise that drives innovative breakthroughs in these key sectors. By forging strategic partnerships and fostering interdisciplinary connections, MMID promotes the advancement of military and civilian medicine and contributes to the continued growth of San Antonio's thriving bioscience industry," said David Fonseca, CEO of VelocityTX.

There is one week left to register for the event. MMID IV is open to military medical professionals, industry leaders, and academics. To register for the event or to learn more about MMID IV, visit the event website.
