D10 Councilmember supports funding to CPS Energy to reduce future rate increases

SAN ANTONIO (November 20, 2024) – During a Special Session on November 19, the City Council discussed a new City policy to support CPS Energy's resilience and reliability. This initiative allows for transferring up to $25.9 million of City funds, gained through CPS Energy’s off-system sales, to CPS Energy.

District 10 Councilmember Marc Whyte voiced his support for directing the funds back to CPS Energy to help avoid future rate increases for residents. He said, “We all want CPS Energy to thrive and progress, but this should not come on the backs of our citizens. In addition to reinvesting this money in our utility to offset or mitigate future rate hikes, we must also hold CPS Energy accountable and make sure it is spending its money in a transparent, efficient and fiscally responsible manner. I look forward to having more discussions on how to best improve these processes and ensure that our citizens’ hard-earned money is spent in a way that most directly benefits them.”
