District 10 Councilmember files Council Consideration Request urging clarity and streamlining in the residential permitting process

SAN ANTONIO (February 13, 2025) – On Thursday, District 10 Councilmember Marc Whyte authored and filed a Council Consideration Request (CCR) asking City Staff to review all developmental fees that are applied to residential projects.

“Developers have repeatedly voiced concerns about the burdensome, costly, and time-consuming permitting and fee process, which creates unnecessary barriers to developing new housing options in San Antonio,” said Councilmember Whyte. “The City must thoroughly review all permitting fees and regulations to ensure they are necessary and serve a vital city function. Excessive costs and cumbersome permitting processes negatively impact neighborhoods and the accessibility and affordability of future housing options."

The Councilmember continued, “Sincere thanks to my Council colleagues in Districts 6, 7, 8, and 9 for standing alongside this important effort. We must streamline the residential construction process to ease the inconveniences lengthy construction has on neighborhoods and bring down the cost of new residences for our citizens. We must remember that all increased costs a developer incurs will ultimately get passed down to any family wishing to buy or rent the new home, and it is our responsibility as a city government to do what we can to make all forms of housing more accessible to our people.”
