District 2 Councilmember Celebrates New Art Installation
Published on January 09, 2025
SAN ANTONIO (January 9, 2025) – District 2 Councilmember Jalen McKee-Rodriguez is pleased to announce the installation of new artwork at the N. New Braunfels overpass sign on Friday, January 10, at 4 p.m., depending on weather conditions. The new artwork replaces the previous artwork that has ushered in thousands of residents and visitors, showcasing the unique artistry of the Eastside.
“For nearly three decades, artwork above the N. New Braunfels bridge has welcomed thousands of people into the Eastside, telling the story of unity in the fight for justice,” said the Councilmember. “Over the years, the art has faded. Today we are proud to announce the installation of new artwork that both honors the outgoing pieces and tells the modern story of unity, justice, community, and a further commitment to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream that rings on.”
“District 2 is at the epicenter of San Antonio’s unique civil rights, arts, and cultural history, and these new art installations reflect the Eastside’s place as a leader in that work,” the Councilmember continued. “We are so excited to introduce the community to the new artwork. We hope that it shines bright and continues to serve as a welcome into our community for years to come.”
During the installation process, N. New Braunfels between Burleson St. and Osburn St. will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on January 10. Traffic will be redirected to N. Pine St.
