SAN ANTONIO (July 25, 2024) – District 4 Councilmember Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia shared a statement regarding her appointment as Chair of the Municipal Utilities Committee (MUC):

“Reconstituting the Municipal Utilities Committee is a welcomed opportunity for City Council to work closely and better align our community outreach efforts with CPS Energy and SAWS. In my role as Chair of the MUC, I look forward to continued conversations about improving our engagement with residents, ensuring affordability, building resiliency, and upholding fiscal responsibility. I hope a spirit of collaboration and coordination will mark the work of this committee as we navigate the uncertainty and challenges associated with our water and energy resources.

“For the first meeting of this committee, we will review how we can work together with our municipally owned utilities and city departments to prevent disconnections, provide assistance in the case of disconnections, and mitigate the impact on residents. Part of our work will include ensuring we have outlined roles and responsibilities and a plan of action that focuses on the safety and well-being of residents. Just as important as working with the leadership at CPS Energy and SAWS, will be the need to include community voices and perspectives, especially vulnerable populations, in our policy making process.”
