LiUNA Local 1095 joined the District 5 Constituent Services Team in identifying resources to complete the project.

SAN ANTONIO (March 7, 2025) – Last week, the District 5 team received an urgent call from a constituent whose spouse had been recently hospitalized and required an amputation. The family needed a wheelchair ramp to help them get in and out of the house. With a tight timeline and limited availability from nonprofits, the District 5 team turned to the union community for help.

LiUNA Local 1095 answered the call and found the manpower and resources to build the ramp for the family free of charge. Their quick response and mobilization alleviated the family’s hardship when they needed it most as they adjusted to their new way of life.

“The District 5 team is gracious for the support from LiUNA Local 1095 in identifying resources,” said District 5 Councilmember Teri Castillo. “Their support for our families in need demonstrates what solidarity is all about – showing up for each other in times of need.”

"Upon receiving the call from District 5, we immediately knew the appropriate contacts and appreciate their work in completing this project,” said Matt Gonzales, Business Manager of Laborers Local 1095. “It is always an honor to know that Councilmember Castillo regards LiUNA as a trusted collaborator in addressing community needs."

Looking ahead, the District 5 Office is committed to rethinking and strengthening the future of collaboration efforts like this one by working with trades organizations to create long-term solutions that efficiently address community needs.
