SAN ANTONIO (November 22, 2022) — This morning, District 5 joined Westside organizations to kick off San Antonio’s ‘Buy Local’ campaign at the Guadalupe Latino Bookstore.

“With small businesses struggling to get by due to the pandemic, now is the perfect time to be intentional with our dollar,” Councilwoman Teri Castillo continued, “What that looks like is spending money on a gift for a loved one at one of the Westside businesses listed in this nifty shopping guide.”

The “Historic Westside Shopping Guide” was developed by community partners to promote the local small business owners, entrepreneurs, vendors, and makers on the Westside near downtown San Antonio.”

The area featured includes businesses that are all within a short drive or walking distance. It overlaps with the state designated Westside Cultural Arts District, called El Mero Weso, and a small business and entrepreneurial support initiative in partnership with the Aspen Institute, called ESTAR West.

The City of San Antonio’s Buy Local campaign kicks off on Small Business Saturday on November 26th and lasts all the way to January 3rd. The campaign encourages consumers to shop locally and online at small businesses and is observed on the first Saturday after Thanksgiving each year.
