District 8 Councilman Highlights City’s Intergovernmental Advocacy Efforts for the 118th Congress
SAN ANTONIO (January 26, 2023) — Today the City Council approved the City of San Antonio's Federal Legislative Program for the 118th U.S. Congress. Councilman Pelaez issued the following statement on the selected priorities, which are aimed at protecting the interests of San Antonians: “As chair of the Intergovernmental Relations Committee, it is important to ensure that the City’s advocacy efforts are strategic and impactful, and that they promote policies that benefit the well-being and resiliency of our growing city and block harmful policies that work against our community’s interests. I am extremely proud of this year’s federal legislative program. Some of our top priorities heading into the 118th Congress include supporting for the following: programs and additional funding that will enhance the City’s infrastructure (including the San Antonio International Airport and the expansion of service), tax credits and programs to help improve the availability of affordable housing and helping to reduce the homeless population, funding for workforce training programs, additional investments in economic and community development initiatives, and enhancing and retaining our military bases as well as military medical installations. Furthermore, we will focus on supporting programs to help reduce crime and address domestic violence. Our legislative program is the product of many months of hard work from City staff and the City’s federal consultant team, as well as input from the National League of Cities, the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the San Antonio Congressional Delegation, and the City Council. Thank you to the entire team for your diligence in ensuring that we continue to advocate for policies and programs that promote the health, safety, and welfare of our great city.”
