La Villita to host San Antonio Asian Festival on May 11
SAN ANTONIO (May 2, 2024) — The San Antonio Asian Festival returns on Saturday, May 11 at La Villita Historic Arts Village. The Asian Resource Center of San Antonio (ARCSA) is partnering with the City of San Antonio and UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC) to host the one-day event, which celebrates the diverse Asian diaspora in San Antonio and Bexar County.
The Asian Festival is one of San Antonio’s premier family-friendly events, with hands-on activities and opportunities to learn through experience. Attendees will once again enjoy authentic food, multicultural performances, educational demonstrations, music, games, art, fashion, crafts and more. “The Asian Resource Center of San Antonio is pleased and honored to host the San Antonio Asian Festival in partnership with UTSA ITC and the City of San Antonio,” said Elisa Chan, ARCSA President. “Through the festival, we hope to bring together people from various backgrounds to experience the flavors, traditions, and arts of Asia. We believe that the Asian Festival continues to serve as a vibrant platform for fostering cross-cultural understanding, appreciation, and unity while offering a joyful experience for all who participate.”
Spearheaded by May Lam, the festival emerged as a grassroots effort by members of the city's Asian community to share their rich cultures and heritages with the broader population. Over the years, it has grown into a beloved annual event and has become part of San Antonio tradition.
“The City of San Antonio is proud to partner with the Asian Resource Center of San Antonio and UTSA’s Institute of Texan Cultures to bring the Asian festival to La Villita Historic Arts Village,” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “I invite all to attend and celebrate the diversity and culture of our San Antonio."
This event highlights UTSA’s dedication to celebrating cultural richness and is a key event in the university's Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month observance. All are invited to commemorate the vital heritage and contributions of Asian and Pacific Islander communities to San Antonio.
