SAN ANTONIO (October 4, 2024) — San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg will attend the official swearing-in of Clara Marina Brugada Molina as the Head of Government (mayor) for Mexico City on Saturday, October 5.

On behalf of Mayor-Elect Brugada, Martha Soledad Ávila Ventura, Congresswoman and President of the Board of Directors, Mexico City Legislature, invited Mayor Nirenberg to represent the City of San Antonio at the ceremony.

The two cities have longstanding ties and numerous areas of mutual interest. San Antonio and Mexico City established a Friendship City relationship in 2019.

Mexico is a crucial trade partner for Texas and San Antonio. Last year, Texas exported more than $129 billion in goods to Mexico and imports from Mexico to Texas exceeded $147 billion.

“I am honored to attend the swearing-in and look forward to continued collaboration with Mexico City,” said the San Antonio Mayor.

Last month, San Antonio also entered a Friendship City relationship with Querétaro, Mexico, when Mayor Nirenberg led a business and cultural mission to Queretaro. The Mayor attended the inauguration of an exhibition of San Antonio Latino artists and witnessed signings of agreements between the San Antonio International Airport and the Queretaro Airport, as well as an agreement between Alamo Colleges and a Consortium of six higher education institutions.
