SAN ANTONIO (February 21, 2023) - Memorial Branch Library (3222 Culebra Rd, 78228) is reopening on Feb. 25 after extensive renovations as part of the City of San Antonio’s 2017-2022 Bond Program. In celebration of the reopening, San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) is hosting a grand reopening event to welcome the community back into the new and improved Memorial Branch.

The $3.8 million project offers the community access to a fully renovated library facility and enhanced library resources. The transformative renovations at Memorial include the creation of a new expanded lobby, new teens section, full technology refresh, community meeting room upgrade, complete restroom renovation, and more.

The project also adds a new Learn at SAPL center, expanding adult education services to San Antonio’s Westside. Learn at SAPL offers technology training, career assistance, ESL services, and GED and Citizenship resources in a supportive and welcoming environment.

“We know the community has anxiously awaited the reopening of the Memorial Branch Library,” said Ramiro S. Salazar, SAPL Director. “We are so excited to welcome our patrons back into this improved space. The staff at Memorial have worked hard to continue offering Library service throughout the project, and I know they are eager to welcome the community back into Memorial Branch Library.”

Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring SAPL Trustee for District 5 Norma Montalvo and Library Director Salazar. Following the ceremony, the public can explore the new facility and take part in activities designed for all ages. At 11:00 a.m., The City of San Antonio’s Director of Veteran and Military Affairs, Maj. Gen. Juan G. Ayala (USMC, Retired), will lead a roundtable discussion on veteran affairs in Memorial’s meeting room. Memorial Branch Library is named in honor of San Antonians who have died in military service.

The reopening celebration will officially kick off a return of full-time services at Memorial. Regular service hours are Monday and Tuesday 12 – 8 p.m. and Wednesday through Sunday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Interim service for Memorial Branch Library has been held at the Marianist Archives on the campus of St. Mary’s University. The final day for interim service will be Friday, Feb. 24.
