District 5 Councilmember’s Policy Request Moves Forward to Develop Ad Hoc Committee

SAN ANTONIO (June 27, 2024) — The City’s Planning & Community Development Committee approved assembling an ad hoc task force to review and update City Codes as they relate to Used Automotive Recycling Parts Recyclers (UAPRs) and Metal Recycling Entities (MREs).

The task force will review and recommend updates toward Chapter 11 Fire Prevention and Chapter 16 Licenses and Business Regulation Codes.

“I am grateful to see this policy request move to the next phase to appoint people to the committee to review the current code and develop tangible solutions,” Councilwoman Castillo said. “Ultimately, this is about protecting our residents and ensuring that compliance is at the forefront for these vital businesses. Thank you to everyone who took the time to make their voice heard at today’s Planning & Community Development Committee.”

The ad hoc committee will comprise community representatives, industry experts, neighborhood associations, and City Staff. The committee is expected to provide a briefing of their recommendations to the Planning & Community Development Committee in February 2025.
