San Antonio River Draining Completed Ahead of Schedule

SAN ANTONIO (January 19, 2024) – The City of San Antonio Public Works department is pleased to announce the early completion of the biennial River Walk draining and maintenance project, with the river now fully refilled as of Jan. 18, 2024. Initiated in the mid-1980’s, this year's maintenance focused on the main channel from East Josephine Street to East Nueva Street and from S. Alamo Street to Lone Star Blvd. The work was conducted without affecting the bustling areas of the River Walk loop.

This year's efforts resulted in the removal of 46.58 tons of sediment and various debris, improving the river's condition and appearance. Items retrieved included scooters, sandbags, folding chairs, a trash can, orange cones and other trash.
