SAN ANTONIO, TX (September 30, 2022) – Metro Health is proud to partner with the Collaborative Commission on Domestic Violence (CCDV) for Purple Porch SA, a month-long campaign that aims to increase awareness and support to end domestic violence. Starting on October 1, residents, organizations, and businesses can participate by lighting or decorating their porch with a purple color to spread awareness about domestic violence and support healing among survivors. San Antonians can amplify their involvement by posting a picture on their social media channels and using #PurplePorchSA.

“Domestic violence often goes underreported due to fear of retaliation from the abuser, but we continue to shine a light on this public health issue by ending the stigma and encouraging victims to get help in a safe manner,” said Metro Health Director, Claude A. Jacob. “I want to express my gratitude to our Metro Health staff and the CCDV co-chairs for their steadfast commitment to addressing domestic violence using a public health approach, so that our communities can live without suffering from violence in their own homes.”

The Violence Prevention Section at Metro Health has expanded direct services for victims of domestic violence by adding staff dedicated to crisis advocacy and case management. The Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) has also seen an increase in personnel to offer its curriculum to people involved in the justice system. Triple P classes give parents and guardians the tools to confidently navigate parenting situations by promoting positive behavior within the family.

“Purple Porch SA provides our community an opportunity to come together during National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and lets those affected by family violence know that they are not alone,” said Judge Monique Diaz, CCDV Co-chair. “Since one in three women has experienced domestic violence in Texas, we have to employ every resource at our disposal to break the generational cycle of abuse. This is one of the greatest priorities for us at the city,” added María Villagómez, CCDV Co-chair.
