San Antonians have four opportunities to “Walk with Little Amal” between October 21 – 22.
SAN ANTONIO (OCTOBER 19, 2023) — As part of a large-scale, nationwide art project, the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture, Office of the Immigration Liaison, and multiple arts, education and social service organizations are preparing to welcome Amal Walks Across America to San Antonio. Little Amal is a 12-foot puppet depicting a Syrian refugee girl who will visit San Antonio on October 21 – 22, 2023. Walk stops in San Antonio are part of her 6,000 miles trek across the nation in one of “the largest free public festivals ever created.” Her journey spans a total of two months and 35 cities for meet-and-greets at influential cultural institutions with American artists.
Little Amal’s journeys are festivals of art and hope that draw attention to the huge numbers of children fleeing war, violence, and persecution, each with their own story. Her urgent message to the world is “don’t forget about us.”
“We’re proud to partner with such incredible local organizations to spread Amal’s message of hope,” said Department of Arts & Culture Executive Director Krystal Jones. “Her journey shows how art can be a tool for understanding and spark conversations on difficult subjects.”
Many San Antonio organizations and artist are helping to welcome Little Amal. Here’s where you can be part of the experience:
