SAN ANTONIO (April 04, 2023) – San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department officials announced that park curfew will be lifted at select City parks for the Easter holiday. Park curfew will be lifted beginning at 11 p.m. on Thursday, April 6 and will resume at 11 p.m. on Easter Sunday, April 9. Overnight camping will be allowed at the following City parks:
Park guests are reminded that recycling bins are available in the parks and should be used for plastic bottles and cans. No glass containers are allowed. Food-contaminated waste should be disposed of in trash cans. Patrons are urged to bring trash bags and remove their trash at the end of their stay in the park. To help support proper waste disposal, the Park Stewardship team and volunteers will be visiting parks promoting recycling opportunities and providing extra trash bags to park visitors. “We’re excited to continue our city’s Easter tradition by allowing camping at select parks over the holiday weekend. Families, friends and neighbors can enjoy spending time together, outdoors, in our city’s beautiful green spaces.” said Homer Garcia III, Director of Parks and Recreation. “We encourage visitors to do their part to ensure our parks remain clean by disposing of litter and recyclables properly. Whatever you pack into the park, please remember to pack it out.” During 2022, Easter weekend visitors disposed of 19 tons of trash and 5 tons of recycling in Brackenridge Park alone.
Current weather forecast calls for rain throughout the weekend. Park visitors and campers are advised to pay close attention to local weather reports.
In order to continue promoting a healthy park system, wildlife management activities will be ongoing at Brackenridge Park and Woodlawn Lake Park throughout the weekend. To deter bird activity, this could mean loud, auditory noise from clapper boards or pyrotechnics being set off in designated areas of these parks. Campers at these park locations should be aware that noise may be similar to fireworks. These are established bird deterrent methods approved and administered by the USDA Wildlife Services Division.
